The Hornets are in danger of missing out on the signing of Benjamin Stambouli after French giants Paris Saint-Germain made a move for the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, the Watford Observer understands.

We reported on Saturday that Watford had almost tied up a deal to bring the 24-year-old to Vicarage Road, however, the Parisians’ eleventh hour offer could scupper the deal.

While Stambouli is highly unlikely to be a first-team regular in the French capital he is believed to be keen on returning to his native France.

Watford are still hopeful of capturing the former France Under-21 international but the arrival of Valon Behrami, whose move was confirmed on Saturday, has softened the blow should Stambouli opt to sign with PSG.

Stambouli only joined Spurs last summer from Montpellier but struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane.

He made 25 appearances in all competitions but started just four Premier League matches.
