The Hornets are set to announce the signing of defender Miguel Britos, the Watford Observer understands.

It was initially believed the 30-year-old centre-back would join fellow Pozzo-owned club Udinese from Napoli before being sent on loan to Vicarage Road for the forthcoming campaign.

However, we understand the Golden Boys may sign Britos directly from Gli Azzurri.

Britos’ departure from Napoli was dependant on the southern Italian club sealing the signing of midfielder Allan from the Little Zebras.

That deal went through this morning and the Hornets are now poised to announce the Uruguayan has become their eighth summer signing.

Britos began his career in his native Uruguay before moving to Bologna from Wanderers in 2008 of €4m.

He then joined Napoli in 2011 for a fee of €9m, helping them to two Coppa Italia triumphs in 2012 and 2014 and finish Serie A runners-up in 2013.

The Hornets are also understood to have clinched the signing of Jose Manuel Jurado from Spartak Moscow and remain interested in signing Lex Immers from Feyenoord.
