Watford may not have scored in their last three matches but Quique Sanchez Flores says he isn’t worried about the Hornets’ lack of goals ahead of Saturday’s trip to Manchester City.

Flores’ 4-2-3-1 formation has undoubtedly shored up the Golden Boys’ defence but their prolific attack has been blunted.

Watford have drawn blanks against West Bromwich Albion, Southampton and Preston North End and have only mustered just one shot on target in their last two games.

It won’t be any easier at the Etihad Stadium against a City side who are yet to concede a goal this season.

“As a coach I am looking for solutions. It’s true we haven’t scored in the last two matches but it is not always easy for a newly promoted team to score.

“Goalscorers are very difficult to find in the market. The most important thing at the moment is to create chances.

“Against Everton we scored two and we had created chances against West Brom and Southampton. Sometimes scoring a goal is a questions of millimetres and seconds sometimes.

“I am not worried. I know that during the season goals aren’t our best tool because it is very difficult against certain teams.”

But Flores hinted he would be happy to see another striker signed before the transfer window.

He said: “I would like to have more possibilities to score goals. That is important. At the moment we have three players that can score, (Matej) Vydra, (Troy) Deeney and (Odion) Ighalo.”

Watford travel to Manchester with no fresh injury concerns. Joel Ekstrand (knee) will be absent while Miguel Britos is suspended after he was sent off against Preston on Tuesday.

Flores and City boss Manuel Pellegrini know each other well. They faced off several times during their spells in charge of clubs in Spain but the gap between their respective sides has perhaps never been greater.

“I respect Pellegrini as a person and a coach very much,” Watford’s head coach said. “I’ve played a lot against him in the past and in these games it was always tough. I don’t remember the score but sometimes I won and sometimes Pellegrini won.”

Flores continued: "Manchester City are an amazing team, a very difficult team. They have an amazing attack.

"They have pace down the sides, power in the middle and have skills in the second striker. So we have to work out how to reduce the characteristics of the players.

"Who do you mark? Silva? Aguero? Navas? It’s difficult. There is the velocity of Navas, the speed of Aguero, the intelligence of Silva and the footballing ability of Yaya. We will to try solve how to stop them during the game.

“We will prepare the best plan possible. We know in our minds we can get a good result. Why not? Football is eleven against eleven and our confidence is up. So we are ready to play.”

But following three games without a goal would Flores be willing to change from his preferred formation?

“We don’t have reasons to change too much,” he said. “We are in the middle of the table and are playing with confidence.

“Of course a lot of times we will find the other team is better than us because we need time to calibrate our team.”
