Daniel Pudil announced via Instagram he has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, becoming the first non-homegrown player to leave Watford ahead of the Premier League's squad submission deadline.

Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores can select a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players to include in his 25-man Premier League squad until January and Pudil was one of those who had seemed vulnerable.

Watford subsequently confirmed Pudil has joined the Owls on a season-long loan.

The 29-year-old left-back was in the initial raft of loanees who moved to Vicarage Road in the summer of 2012, moving on loan from Granada before making his switch permanent a year later.

A message with a photo of Pudil at the Owls' Hillsborough home read: "I would like to thank all the fans and the player [at] Watfor FC for a wonderful three years at this club. I was honored to be part of the club. And now I begins [sic] a new stage, hopefully to a successful end...Sheffield Wednesday...I am happy to I can be in this great club."

Pudil made 108 appearances for the Hornets and scored three goals. However, the Czech Republic international fell out of favour at Vicarage Road under Slavisa Jokanovic last season and made just 19 starts - only three of which came in the new year - as the Golden Boys were promoted.

He had only been involved in the matchday squad for one of Watford's three Premier League fixtures this season - away at Everton on the opening day.
