Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher says he is surprised to see Watford sitting 13th in the Premier League as he thought the Hornets would be struggling at the foot of the table.

The Golden Boys claimed their first win of the season on Saturday as they defeated Swansea City 1-0 at Vicarage Road thanks to a goal from Odion Ighalo.

That victory has been supplemented with draws against Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Southampton and leaves Watford sitting in mid-table with six points from five matches.

Something that seemingly has passed by the former England centre-back.

“I’m surprised to see Watford in mid-table, I thought they’d be down the bottom,” he said on Monday Night Football.

“When I heard this was their first win I assumed they were rooted to the bottom. But they’ve had a few good draws (against Everton, West Brom and Southampton).

“Ighalo can score goals and he got them the 1-0 win against Swansea.

“They have gone under the radar somewhat because of the teams that came up everybody seems to be talking about Bournemouth and Norwich. But Watford are actually above Bournemouth.

“I find that surprising but it’s massive for a promoted club to get that first win.”
