Hornets legend Lloyd Doyley is in line to play his first match for almost ten months next week as the defender steps up his recovery from neck surgery.

The 32-year-old underwent successful surgery in May and has since been undertaking his rehabilitation at Watford’s London Colney training ground, despite his contract with the Golden Boys expiring at the end of June.

And Doyley is ready to take the next step in his recovery by taking to the pitch next week when Watford’s Under-21 side face Huddersfield Town.

The Jamaica international tweeted on Wednesday: “First game back pencilled in for next week, Thursday. Watford-21s vs Huddersfield. [But it’s] 21+11 in my case.”

Doyley’s last appearance came in the Hornets’ Boxing Day defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers - although he was in the match-day squad Watford’s 2-2 draw at Derby County on Friday, April 4.
