Watford Watford Polo Club continued their 100 per cent start to the British Water Polo League Division Three season by winning three times over the weekend.

The team have now won all five of their matches this season and with two matches to go, both at Woodside, they have every chance of finishing the campaign with seven straight victories.

The team has now also qualified for the next stage of the season & will move into 'Championship Two' where they will play seven matches over three separate weekends.

If they finish in the top three they will then start the 2016 season in Division Two, which would be the club’s highest ever league position.

The weekend began with a game on Saturday lunchtime against London Otter & they got off to the perfect start winning the opening quarter 5-1.

The pick of the goals came from goalkeeper Peter Pickford as he launched a shot from his own goal line that went in via the underside of crossbar & post with only one second of the period remaining.

In the second period Otter hit back to level the game at 5-5 but with a brace from Gianluca Valle, Watford regained the lead at half time 7-5.

Otter won the third period 3-1 to once again level the game at 8-8; James Warman hitting Watford’s eighth of the match.

The final period saw the team win 3-0 & the game 11-8 to secure their first win of the weekend.

Two games followed on Sunday and first up was the University of Bristol. Once again Watford got off to the perfect start winning the opening quarter 6-0 and by half time the team had stretched the lead to 10-2.

The third period saw the sides cancel each other out with a 3-3 quarter. But the final quarter had Watford back to their best with four goals clinching a second success of the weekend, 17-6.

The final game of the weekend was against Hucknall and once again the team got off to a flying start as by half time they had raced into an 8-1 lead.

With the points effectively in the bag, head coach Edi Brkovic rotated his team around. Although Watford lost the second half 5-3, the game was won 11-6.

  • On Monday evening Watford won the Premier Division of the London League (summer), the oldest water polo league in the country, for the first time in their history.

The title was clinched as Watford beat Sutton & Cheam 17-13. The club's Firsts and Seconds have now gone 32 matches without defeat since May.
