Kings Langley joint-manager Paul Hughes was not entirely surprised to see his side rattle in six against Barton Rovers on Saturday but says the challenge is now replicating that form more often.

So the former Chelsea midfielder would have been pleased to see his side follow that impressive 6-1 drubbing up with a second success on Tuesday, winning 2-0 at Uxbridge to hold onto fifth place in Division One Central of the Southern League.

Hughes and joint-boss Ritchie Hanlon have called for greater consistency and performance levels despite an impressive start to life at Step Four and now appear to be hitting their stride.

“There were two very good performances, I have to say,” enthused Hughes. “Credit must go to the players for their work ethic, effort and putting in a great response from the Hanwell defeat.”

He continued: “It is definitely possible we can score that many when we’re on our game. We’re always guilty of not taking our chances but when you get a game like that and everything you hit goes in it’s very satisfying.

“It’s a difficult balancing act now because the players expect to be told how well they’ve done – and they have – but Ritchie and I have to make sure they don’t rest on their laurels because then we will end up losing to a lesser team.”

Mitchell Weiss continued his hot-streak against Barton Rovers on Saturday with a double either side of half-time and was joined on the scoresheet by Connor Toomey, Danny Hutchins, Ollie Cole and an own goal.

The Hemel Hempstead loanee then opened the scoring against Uxbridge before cousin Steve Ward added a second late on.

“Mitchell is doing brilliantly,” said Hughes of Kings’ seven-goal top scorer. “But we’ve got a lot of midfielders who can all score goals and are all very dangerous. We can’t just rely on Mitchell to score goals.”

Kings will look to take that form to Isthmian Division One North side Bury Town tomorrow in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

The Suffolk side – relegated from the Isthmian Premier Division last season – lost 3-0 to Hemel Hempstead in the FA Cup earlier this season but Hughes will not be taking the Blues lightly.

He said: “We know people at Hemel Hempstead so we have a very good idea of what to expect and for that reason we know it will not be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination.”
