Oxhey Jets boss Bob Wyatt insists he is still confident his side can get out of trouble despite losing 2-1 to bottom side Bedford in the South Midlands Premier Division on Tuesday.

The Jets spurned a host of chances during their home match and were punished by their fellow strugglers.

Bedford opened the scoring before Antony Shepherd headed home the equaliser. But the visitors scored against the run of play to leave Oxhey fifth bottom in the table.

But Wyatt remains upbeat about his side's chances of pulling away from the wrong end of the division during the rest of the campaign.

The Jets boss said: "It's a battle down there but there is a long way to go and I am confident we have enough around us to lift ourselves up the table. I believe we will pull clear of the bottom over the course of the season."

Wyatt was not unhappy with his side's performance against Bedford but felt his players paid the price for their wastefulness in front of goal.

He said: "There was actually not a lot wrong with the performance. We made the running but just didn't take our chances.

"It was a case of us not taking our chances. Our finishing was not good enough but that's why we are down near the bottom."

The Jets return to action this weekend with a trip to Holmer Green.

Sun Sports were beaten 3-1 at home to Welwyn Garden City on Tuesday night.

The hosts were blown away after conceding three goals in the opening 45 minutes.

Sun Sports improved after the break and got on the scoresheet through substitute Liam James but it was not enough to spark a comeback.

Sun Sports were held to a 1-1 draw at Tring Athletic on Saturday.

Tring made a fast start to the match and their pressure resulted in an early goal through Joe Naylor when he rounded the goalkeeper and tapped the ball into the net.

Home shot stopper Matt Evans then did well to smother an effort from Sam Warrell.

Sun Sports grabbed their equaliser in the 72nd minute when Karl Penny applied the finishing touch at the back post.

The visitors had a late scare when Naylor anticipated a back pass and rounded the keeper but the angle was too tight to find the target.

Berkhamsted have been drawn away to Saffron Walden Town in the FA Vase third round after a 3-1 home victory over AFC Kempston Rovers.

Berko's opponents were unbeaten in the United Counties League all season and the visitors took the lead before the break following a handball in the area. A penalty was awarded and Dom Marsala spiced up proceedings with the breakthrough.

But the hosts levelled the contest in the second half when Dale Sears found the net. Berko took the lead with a stunning strike by Josh Chamberlain from just inside the visitors' half.

Berkhamsted sealed the victory when Aaron Nash-Baker cut inside and beat a couple of players before firing into the corner of the net.

Vinny Shrieves was sent off as a substitute for the visitors after headbutting George Carberry during the closing stages.

Leverstock Green lost 4-2 at AFC Dunstable on Wednesday night in the league.
