Fullerians battled to a 22-12 win at Welwyn in London Two North West on Saturday.

The visitors took the elements and with the wind and the slope behind them Fullers began to dominate. The scrummage worked particularly well and earned a penalty as Welwyn came offside which enabled Dan Evans to kick them in front.

The first try came when Fullers spread the defence and centre Craig Duncan was on hand to use his power and pace to barge over the line for the converted score.

They extended their lead when number eight Simon Lye picked up from the scrum and offloaded to his scrum-half Max Rawlinson who crashed over the line.

The third try and the best of the match saw almost every player touch the ball in the Welwyn half. With gaps appearing the ball was shipped wide for wing Connor Head to race in and score unopposed.

Fullers continued to look for the fourth try and possible bonus point but Welwyn were able to stop the onslaught.

In the second half Fullers scored via second row Liam Boyd but the try was disallowed for a double movement.

Welwyn kicked well in the wind to pin Fullers in their own 22. They immediately capitalised on some soft tackling and crashed over the line for a try.

The hosts doubled their try tally shortly after as they caught and drove at the lineout although the referee had given a penalty try.

Fullers ultimately claimed the victory but could not find the fourth try to add an extra point.

Head coach Rich Hoskins said: “It was good performance in the first half but we went into our shell in the second and allowed Welwyn back into the match.

"It would have been nice to get the bonus point as it was on today but to beat Welwyn away from home is a great achievement."

Fullers' next home is against Tabard on December 5.

Tabard suffered an agonising 22-18 home league defeat to Old Merchant Taylors' on Saturday.

It was a disappointing result for the hosts especially after clawing their way back to take the lead with ten minutes to go.

Tabard got off to great start with Harry Gough's penalty kicking them into the lead but this was quickly cancelled out by the visitors.

OMT scored the first try of the game with a catch and drive at a lineout following a penalty against Tabard.

The hosts were rewarded with a penalty at the breakdown after a good break by O’Neill which was well struck by Gough to take the score to 8-6 after ten minutes of the second half.

Tabard’s determination to play with ball in hand gifted OMT their second try five minutes later.

The home side were rewarded with their first try when Gerald Arasa delivered a wonderful offload to Liam Glynn who moved the ball to the strong running Leon Leonidas and he scored close in to the posts.

The successful conversion took the score to 15-13 in favour of OMT after 22 minutes of the second half.

Tom King then showed what a dangerous runner he is after collecting a loose clearance by the visitors.

His arching run split the OMT defence before passing to Henry Offredy and he set up Hurford whose out stretched arm just made the line.

This gave Tabard an 18-15 lead heading into the last ten minutes of the match but a late try snatched victory for the visitors.
