Callum Shinkwin got the season underway in South Africa this afternoon after recently winning his European Tour card.

It was an up and down day for the Moor Park golfer as he shot an opening two-over-par 74 at Leopard Creek in the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Shinkwin got off to an excellent start to the tournament after moving to five-under-par early on with three birdies and an eagle.

But his run ended on the 17th hole when he bogeyed the par four before a damaging triple bogey at the par five 18th.

Shinkwin then double bogeyed the par five second hole although he wiped this out with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh.

But he suffered a disappointing finish when he made another triple bogey on the eighth hole to leave him ten shots behind early leader Christiaan Basson.

Shinkwin secured his European Tour card after finishing 13th overall in the Road to Oman.
