Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round Four

In one of the few matches that were not affected by the bad weather, Joe Mortimer of Cassiobury Rangers had a field day, scoring five goals against visitors Marina Vale from Hoddesdon on Sunday.

With further goals from Ollie Broughton, Sam Mortimer and Jack Henley, Cassiobury eased through 9-3 and can now look forward to an away fixture against Berkhamsted side Apsley FC in the next round.

In the other two fixtures that were played, neither Watford Sunday League side travelled well with RD FC losing 5-1 to Hatfield-based Shamrock Rovers and Colne Valley going down 6-1 to Welwyn Garden City side The Grove. Hugh Trayte was on target for RD with Max Harris grabbing Colne Valley’s single strike.

Division Two outfit Bell Rangers battled well against high-flying Gadeside Rangers from the first division but exited the cup 3-0 with the visitors’ goals coming from Russ Popplewell, Dan Bryon and Adam Hills.

Also through to the next round with an identical score are Premier side Vision United, who beat Division Four’s Ripstone FC courtesy of a brace from Adam Wallace and a goal by Andrew Richardson.

While Ripstone could not find the net, they should be comforted they were not over-run by a team four divisions higher.

Division Two

Langleybury Cricket Club got back to winning ways with a 5-1 victory over visitors Croxley FC Reserves and moved back to second spot in the table, separated only by goal difference from Colne Valley.

Three-goal Gary Cook and Greg Cook, with two, were on target for the home side, although Croxley’s Ollie Edwards was able to continue his fine scoring run.

Division Three

Hertsmere (Sunday) took the points with a 3-1 victory to extend their winning run when entertaining Woodlands United thanks to goals from Charlie Watts, Michael Miller and Nathan Slinger.

Craig Hepworth found the net for struggling Woodlands but they can again take some confidence from this performance following directly after their tight match against Evergreen, another of the top sides in the division.

Previously unbeaten Evergreen lost for the first time in this campaign when visiting a strong Sun Postal Sports, going down by the odd goal in seven.

Sun led at half-time 2-1 and ran out 4-3 winners thanks to a brace from Connor Winn and strikes from Louis Hanker and Luke Horne.

Evergreen’s goals came from Kyle Rimmer and Phillip Walldock with Anthony Benvenga finding the net for a second week running.
