Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren says he will field the strongest side possible against Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Magpies travel to Vicarage Road this weekend looking to advance past the third round for the first time in four years.

But given their plight in the Premier League this season - Newcastle sit 18th in the table - McClaren was asked if he will opt to rest key players against the Hornets.

The former England boss rejected the notion the Magpies wouldn’t be taking the competition seriously and told the Newcastle Chronicle: “I’m absolutely confident we can have a go at that (the FA Cup).

“We’ll play a strong team and every game is important. The FA Cup is as important as any other game. It’s another game we want to win.”

Newcastle will be far from full strength, however, as ten players are currently sidelined due to injury.
