Adlene Guedioura must "calm down" if he is to produce his best form and become a regular in the Watford side, according to Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores.

The Algerian was handed his first start for the Golden Boys following his summer switch from Crystal Palace in this afternoon's 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

Guedioura played a deeper midfield role alongside Ben Watson and put in a tireless display, the kind Hornets fans have come to expect from the 30-year-old.

However, Flores felt the Algeria international was too eager to impress and says Watford have yet to see the best of Guedioura this season.

The Spaniard said: “Guedioura knows Watford perfectly. He’s training really well but we need to try to find the best version of Guedioura. He is much better than he looks at this moment.

“We tried to talk with Guedioura because he needs to calm down a little bit. He was anxious, a little bit nervous and he wanted to do everything.

"We need to calm this player down a little bit because he has the potential we need for midfielders at Watford.”
