Watford signing Adalberto Penaranda insists he is happy in Spain and says he will stay at Granada next season if they remain in La Liga.

The Venezuelan forward agreed a deal to join the Hornets in January and is on loan until the summer at Pozzo-owned Granada.

Penaranda was expected to link up with the Watford squad for next season but he has claimed he will remain with Granada, who are 17th in La Liga, if they avoid relegation.

Speaking to the Granada Twitter feed, Penaranda said: "I would tell Granada fans not to worry, because if the team remains in the Primera, I'll be staying here next season.

"I have my feet firmly planted on the ground and I'm happy where I am now, focused on helping Granada stay in the Primera."

The signing of the 18-year-old is seen as a coup for the Hornets. The attacker broke Lionel Messi’s record as the youngest non-Spaniard to score a brace in La Liga in December and was already Granada’s youngest ever player.

Speaking in February, Watford head coach Quique Sanchez Flores said: “We needed to move quickly with this player because he was playing really well in a very important league, the Spanish league.

“He’s a very interesting player. He’s powerful, young, playing well and scoring goals.

"It was necessary to move quickly and I think the club moved really well when we had the possibility to incorporate Penaranda for next year.”
