Premier Division
Old Danes Athletic clinched the last ever Olympian League Premier Division title after Oxhey Hall Stars came up short in their final game against Nascot Arms yesterday evening.
Oxhey Hall’s task of needing a six-goal winning margin came about after Old Danes defeated Bedmond 5-0 on Sunday with two goals from Glen O’Malley and singles from Ross Bennett, Greg Chappell and Craig Horwood.
The required margin of victory as always going to be a big ask for Oxhey Hall and it was made all the more difficult when Luke Pochetty gave Nascot a lead which they held until half-time.
The start of the second half saw Oxhey score four times thanks to two goals from Paul Kenwright and one each from Matt Byrne and Rod Ladmore, leaving them to score three more times to take the title.
Oxhey were always a threat on the break but a combination of excellent defending by Nascot and poor finishing meant they came up short, leaving Old Danes to win the title by a superior goal difference of plus 32 to Oxhey’s plus 30.
