Valon Behrami captained Switzerland as they suffered a setback ahead of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 loss at home to Belgium in Geneva yesterday.

The Hornets midfielder, who missed the end of the Premier League season through injury, saw his side take the lead in the 31st minute through Blerim Dzemaili’s clinical finish after the ball had been turned into his path by Toby Alderweireld’s attempted clearance.

But the home nation’s advantage lasted only three minutes as Romelu Lukaku equalised from six yards after Phillipe Senderos failed to cut out a Dries Mertens cross.

The Swiss had substitute Haris Seferovic sent off with nine minutes remaining following a clash with Jan Vertonghen and the Belgians made their numerical advantage count soon after when Kevin De Bruyne fired home a dipping shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Vladimir Petkovic’s men face Moldova on Friday before they kick-off their European Championship campaign against Albania in Group A on Saturday, June 11.
