Matt Wallace still has 36 holes to play but the Moor Park golfer has continued his impressive European Tour debut by comfortably making the cut to remain within striking distance of the leaders at the Nordea Masters.

The 26-year-old, who was invited to compete at his first Tour event following his history-making four consecutive wins on the Alps Tour, followed up his four-under-par opening round 68 with a 70 today at the Bro Hof Slott club in Stockholm to sit in a tie for eighth place on six-under-par, five shots behind leader Matthew Fitzpatrick.

The Pinner-based professional had been only one shot off the lead overnight, but by the time he teed off he was seven shots off the top of the leaderboard after British Masters champion Fitzpatrick had fired a superb seven-under-par round of 65.

Wallace moved to five-under after a birdie on the par three fourth, but immediately dropped a shot on the par three next hole – his first bogey of the tournament.

But a birdie on the par five ninth saw him go out in one-under-par and the Moor Park professional was soon in even better shape after back-to-back par five birdies on 12 and 13 took him move to seven-under.

However, Wallace dropped a shot on the next par five, the 15th, to finish on six-under and within two shots of the rest of the field bar Fitzpatrick.

Wallace’s Moor Park club-mate Callum Shinkwin has also made the cut, but the Bushey professional suffered a difficult day after following up his opening round of 69 with a three-over-par 75 to leave him on a level par for the tournament.

The 23-year-old dropped shots on the par five first and par three fourth to drop two shots, but back-to-back birdies on the par four eighth and par five ninth moved him back to three-under.

But that was followed by a dropped shot on the par four tenth and although Shinkwin retrieved that with a birdie on the 12th, a double-bogey seven on the next hole and a bogey finish on the par four 18th looked like it would leave him in a battle to make the weekend. Ultimately though, the cut-off point proved to be two-over-par.
