Watford have been linked with Torino wide man Bruno Peres and Palermo midfielder Franco Vazquez in deals which could be worth a combined £24million.

The Italian media have reported the club are eyeing up a move for the pair but may face stiff competition, with Manchester United and Tottenham believed to be monitoring their progress.  Peres, a 26-year-old Brazilian, has been deployed regularly at right-back, as a wing-back and in midfield during his career and earned rave reviews for his performances in Serie A last season.

With new Watford boss Walter Mazzarri widely believed to be introducing a 3-5-2 formation at Vicarage Road this campaign, Peres could be seen as a vital cog in that system to take up one of the wing-back slots, and may command a £12m fee.

He spent two years at Santos before moving to Torino for around €2.2million in 2014, where he earned national attention after an 80-yard run and goal in his first derby with neighbours Juventus in November, 2014.

Italian football site  has suggested Palermo midfielder Vazquez could be purchased by Udinese, a club also owned by the Pozzo family, for around €15m before either being loaned or transferred to Watford at a later date.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Vazquez first moved to Palermo as a replacement for the departing Javier Pastore in January, 2012 for around €4.5m.

But he found himself a bit-part player in his opening season and was then loaned to Rayo Vallecano in 2012-13.

Following a disappointing spell in Spain, his Palermo career looked to be over but following his departure he began to feature more heavily.

He never looked back from that point, and in 2014/15 provided more assists than any other player in Serie A, earning two Italy caps as a result.
