Chorleywood middleweight Ryan Maycock is looking to let his next opponent have it with both barrels.

The 28-year-old is set to be matched at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, July 30.

He made a winning start to his professional career there in February, outpointing Georgi Valevski over four rounds.

Maycock revealed: “I broke the thumb on my right hand a few weeks before the fight, so I didn’t have much sparring and I was a bit wary of throwing my back hand.

“The fight still went well enough.

“I managed to dominate the fight with my jab and left hook, but I was still a bit disappointed I didn’t stop him.

“The thumb has healed now and I’m hoping for a stoppage in my next fight.”

Maycock, who is waiting to hear who he will face in the four-rounder in the East End, has been joined in the gym by Elliott Matthews, the Southern Area middleweight champion.

Maycock says sparring Matthews is “great preparation” and says he can’t wait for his next fight.

“I’ve been kick boxing competitively since I was five-years-old,” said the fighter, “so making my professional boxing debut didn’t faze me at all.

“In fact, I was buzzing, I loved it. Fight night is the best part of it for me. The hard bit is losing the weight.”

Maycock had to be careful what he ate and drank during his recent holiday in Ibiza.

He said: “I had a few gym sessions and went on a few runs to keep my weight down, but it wasn’t a wild holiday anyway.”
