Every Watford fan will have their own individual memories of Almen Abdi, but here is a collection of some of his his most significant and important contributions in a Hornets shirt for you to enjoy again.

Maybe it isn't a surprise that undoubtedly one of the club's best ever midfield players often came to the fore in pivotal games; talented players have a tendency to do that. But from opening his Hornets account in the dramatic late 3-2 victory at Crystal Palace on the first day of the 2012/13 campaign, it quickly became evident the Pozzo family had brought a special player to Vicarage Road.

One of a number of loan signings following the Pozzo takeover of the club that summer, the now 29-year-old sparkled during his first season in Hertfordshire, scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions as Gianfranco Zola's new-look Hornets came so close to securing promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Injury robbed Watford of Abdi's services for much of the following year - a disappointment in terms of what happened in 2012/13 - but the 'Swiss Maestro' returned to action towards the end of that campaign and was to be integral again in 2013/14.

The Hornets were less than convincing - and that initially continued after Slavisa Jokanovic had been brought on board as head coach - but the campaign lifted off after Abdi had scored twice, including what proved to be the Goal of the Season, during a 5-0 win at Fulham.

The former Udinese player was to score nine times that campaign as mission Premier League was accomplished, but aside from his superb strike at Craven Cottage two others immediately stand out: his goal in the remarkable 4-3 win at Bolton Wanderers in February 2014 and the decisive third in the equally vital 3-1 victory at Nottingham Forest two months later.

The Premier League stage looked set for Abdi's vision and passing ability centrally, but the Swiss found himself having to play his part in contributing to the greater good in a wider midfield role under Quique Sanchez Flores.

We will never know how Abdi would have fared under Walter Mazzarri - the irony is the new head coach's preferred 3-5-2 formation appeared ideally suited to the midfielder's qualities - after his move to Sheffield Wednesday was confirmed this evening. But the memories should be savoured.
