Watford boss Walter Mazzarri praised Troy Deeney's contribution after the captain helped the Hornets mount an astonishing comeback win over West Ham United.

Deeney got off the mark with his first goal of the season as he curled home their equaliser at the end of the opening 45 minutes.

It proved a crucial moment as Watford dominated the second half and ran out 4-2 winners.

Mazzarri has been impressed with the striker's impact on the squad since his arrival and believes he had a major role in their fightback win over the Hammers.

Head coach Mazzarri said: “He [Deeney] showed that he has completely understood my mentality but I know the player and he had it even before my arrival.

"He has helped the whole team with this confidence and I think the whole team approached the game, especially after the first two goals, with the right mentality."
