Herts Sunday Senior Cup Round One

The 2015 Herts Intermediate Cup winners Reed Rangers enjoyed a good start in their quest for this season’s Senior Cup with a 4-0 away win over Boca Seniors.

It took Reed until the 33rd minute to make the breakthrough when Chris Blunden slotted home. A second goal followed on the stroke of half-time when Andrew Brennan crashed in a shot from 25 yards out.

In the second half, two further goals followed from Dominic David and Blunden, who completed his brace.

Reed’s victory mean they now face fellow Watford Sunday League side Chorleywood Club in the second round as they continued their fine start to the season after a 3-2 win over Nascot Arms.

They had to come back from 1-0 down at the break, but early in the second half Callum McCarroll equalised before Christopher May put them ahead from the penalty spot.

However, Nascot equalised and the tie looked to be heading towards an extra 30 minutes until McCarroll scored his second of the game to put his side through with the last kick of the game.

The four other WSL teams all went out; Met Police Bushey suffered a 6-1 home defeat to Percival, with Ashley Shanahan the man on target.

Green Dragon also went down heavily at home, 5-2 to The Great Northern with Martin Stevens and Nick Martin getting the Dragon goals.

The other two ties saw Rickmansworth Town go down by the same scoreline to New Jacks; Jack Entwistle getting both goals.

Old Fullerians lost narrowly 2-1 to Shamrock Rovers; Sam Parker the scorer.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round One

It was an impressive morning for the league in the Intermediate Cup with all five teams progressing.

Colne Valley beat Maccabi London Lions B 4-3 after extra-time.

Lions went ahead after ten minutes, but Valley had turned it around before the half-time break thanks to goals from a deflected free-kick from veteran Tom Seamons and Andy Mckenzie-Bell.

Early in the second half Lions drew level, but it was Seamons who restored Valley’s lead from the penalty spot 20 minutes after the resumption. However, it was not enough to secure victory in normal time as the visitors drew level for a second time with 19 minutes remaining.

Valley won the tie thanks to Dave Rooney’s winner from six yards out midway through the first period of extra-time.

AFC Oddfellows also won by the scoreline as they defeated FC Kings, and again they needed extra-time to do it. Chris Keppel and Connor Flanagan both struck doubles for the home side.

Cassiobury Rangers enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 home win over FC Benington thanks to goals from Ryan Tarleton, Paul Frost and Jack Henley.

North Watford had a 4-1 away victory over Facelad, although they also required extra-time.

They trailed 1-0 at the break, but Shoaib Ali equalised in the second half. The game was won thanks to three unanswered goals in extra-time from Shakeb Ali and two from Aamer Khan.

Fox and Hounds triumphed 2-1 over Rickmansworth Town in the all-WSL tie.

Bradley Thompson and Michael Edwards were on target for the home side, with Ionut Nedelea replying for the visitors.

Division One

Carl Pettitt netted four times for Croxley but it still was not enough to prevent his team losing 5-4 at home to Oxhey Lions, who scored through Ben Woodman’s brace and singles from Liam Hanley, Ben Foley and Jamie Kern.

West Herts are the early league leaders and they swept aside West Watford 7-0.

Chris Coleman struck a hat-trick supported by double from Jeremy Audic and one each from Roger Lake and Harry Hughes.

Old Danes Athletic are in second place after they defeated RD FC 3-2.

Danes built up a 3-0 lead by half-time thanks to goals from James Burks, Chris White, Jordan Woodcock, but they made changes in the second half.

This allowed RD back into the game and they responded twice through Elliot Myrants-Wilson and Ollie Mussi, but despite some late pressure couldn’t force an equaliser.

Division Two

Langleybury Cricket Club are setting the early pace at the top of the second division with a third straight victory, this time 4-1 over Rifle Volunteer Reserves.

Matt Honey was the star man for the home side scoring a hat-trick, with Dan Bunce getting the other. Barry Tarrant replied for Rifle.

Evergreen needed a second-half comeback to take all three points after Oxhey Rangers had looked to be in control.

Two goals in the first half from Dan Pippin looked to have put Oxhey on course for a first league win of the season, but a dreadful goalkeeping mistake gifted Aleks Jokiel a goal right at the start of the second period.

That changed the game and Conor Graham and Chris Wilcox scored to complete the comeback for the home side.

Bricketwood Social and Bedmond shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Tom Minton and Ashley Yelland scored for the home side whilst Bedmond’s first point of the season was secured thanks to goals from Jordan Davies and Jack Barr.

Division Three

Goals from Mikey Gubay, Jamie Dixon and two from Callum O'Connor saw Bell Rangers put Hertsmere to the sword in a dominant 4-0 win.

Ripstone and Meriden shared six goals in a 3-3 draw.

Matt Sharkey, Ollie Brill and an own goal registered for the home side with Meriden replying through Aarron Crawford, George Ray and Josh Shaw.

Green Dragon Reserves’ 2-1 win over Revolution means they top the table in what is looking like to be a very even division.

Scott Bain and Luke Cole scored for Dragon with Cairo Henry replying for the home side.

The game between Woodlands United and Sun Postal Sports had to be abandoned after 38 minutes due to serious head injuries to two Sun players.

Division Four

Hertfordshire Lions got the better of Bushey Rangers by the odd goal in seven.

In an end-to-end game from the start in which both sides held the lead at some point in the contest, the outcome was decided by Jaime Balmer’s second goal of the game 20 minutes from time.

Sam Crafts also scored a double for Lions, while Michael Goldberg notched twice for Bushey with David Smith getting the other.

FC Woodside and Ardent were the big winners of the morning as they both racked up big away victories.

Woodside put eight past Inter; Joe McCarthy scoring a hat-trick with braces from Drew Snailham and John Croft and Tom Dettmer getting the other.

Ardent’s scorers in the 5-0 win over Roundbush were Charlie Savage with four and a single from Andrew Humbles.

AFC Green Machine beat Railway Arms 4-2.

Daniel Perry, Max Palfrey, Dom Clarke and Joe Boggins were on target for the home side with Joe Perrin scoring twice for Railway.
