Crowds were out in force for the British Masters Pro-Am at The Grove as professionals and celebrities took part in the pre-tournament event.

It was an action-packed and star-studded day as the likes of Piers Morgan, Jamie Redknapp, Aaron Ramsay, Robbie Fowler and Dan Walker all took to the course.

Last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship winner Tyrrell Hatton teed off at 7.50am on Wednesday along with his team of former Scotland footballer Neil McCann, Matthew Partington and Damian Saunders.

The 24-year-old said: “I have only played on this course twice, the second time being at the Pro-Am.

“I was not a spectator here in 2006. It would have been nice to have saw Tiger Woods in his prime.

“It is great to have the British Masters back on the European Tour schedule, last year at Woburn it was a great event and I am sure it will be fantastic here at The Grove as well.

“It is always nice playing in the UK as the events are always well supported the atmosphere at the events you cannot compare them really to anywhere else in Europe. It should be a great week.

“Hopefully I can continue the form I had from last week and have another good tournament. There is no place like home.”

The win at St Andrews saw the Marlow golfer propelled up to 33rd in the Official World Golf rankings, a feat which exceeded his own expectations.

“To get into the Top 50 is something special. Hopefully I can stay inside there by the end of year and get into the Masters for next year, that would be pretty awesome,” he added.

Unfortunately for Hatton, his foursome did not win the morning session as the team of golfer Jaco Van Zyl, Greg Rusedski, Mark Foster and Alan McInally secured the prize money.

The team, who were two under par after the opening hole and led by one at the mid-way point, will be able to give the money to a charity of their choosing and as they won with a score of 31 under-par.

Mark Foster took to twitter to thank the caddies and the marshals and said: “Thanks for helping us round, you guys rock, one tournament, one win.

“And thank you all for an awesome day… 31 under!”

In the afternoon two teams shared the spoils as Tuesday night’s Hero Challenge winner Alex Levy continued his fine form, ending 31 under alongside Roger Booth, Marc Gold and Paul E Bevis.

They shared the spoils with North Middlesex Golf Club member Andrew "Beef" Johnstone’s Westlife team of Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden.

This result had a dramatic finish as Team Ross Fisher could have also equalised the final tally - but Gary Oliver failed to sink the birdie putt.

"Par is your friend" is the key term used to describe this event's scorecard as they participated in a modified Texas Scramble.

It meant the amateurs could tee off from another part of the green for an advantage to ensure balls did not always head into the out of bounds zones.

Elsewhere, in the ISPS Handa Pressure Putt Challenge, golfer Joost Luiten and Stephen Hendry sealed the victory for a £10,000 cheque, again for a charity of their choosing.

They saw off Kevin Pietersen and Chris Wood before hitting in the putts against the clock against Gianfranco Zola and Soren Kjeldsen.

The British Masters concludes on Sunday.
