Oxhey Jets showed their pride and passion at Hoddesdon Town after they drew 2-2 with the hosts in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division on Saturday.

Town went into the match unbeaten in a 11-match run of which nine were straight wins.

The first five minutes of the match were rocky for the visitors when a goalkeeping error gave the home side a superb chance but skipper Jude Bell tracked back to deal with the danger.

Having survived that scare, Jets opened the scoring after 21 minutes when Gary Warn was on hand to blast home the rebound after Adam Lowton’s shot was cleared off the line.

But it was not long before the hosts equalised with a stunning scissor kick by N’Joya.

Oxhey then shot themselves in the foot when a throw-in to them was wasted and a Hoddesdon player made it two when he slotted the ball past the advancing Liam Nugent.

Jets did not give after the break and Warn added a second just before the hour mark when he ran and let fly with a 35-yard dipping shot over the keeper and into the net.

Sun Sports had a week off from league action as there was no match for the first team at the weekend.

This was due to Tring Athletic playing away to Aston Clinton in the League Challenge Cup.

Athletic managed to squeeze through to the second round following a 2-1 victory Aston got off to the perfect start when former Tring player Neil Roberts smashed home a superb free-kick in the fourth minute, leaving keeper Jack Hopwood with no chance.

But Athletic were soon back on terms when Kieran Turner grabbed an equaliser 12 minutes later.

The player, who was making his second appearance for the club since rejoining from Aylesbury, cut in from the left to shoot past the keeper.

Tring had a golden opportunity to turn their pressure into a second goal just past the half-an-hour mark when Clinton’s keeper Liam Smith brought down Luke Dunstan in the area.

But Sam Joliffe was unable to convert the penalty as he smacked the ball against the post.

Tring did not get too disheartened though, and kept pushing forward in their quest to take the lead.

George Carbery was the man up for the job when he rounded the keeper and fired the ball home despite the presence of a defender on the line.

The visitors nearly made it three when Turner again found Carbery free in the area but the former Berkhamsted player could not add to his seven-goal tally for the season.

Aston rallied after the break in a bid to get back on terms but their opponents weathered the pressure and spurned another great chance to score a third before the end.

Chris Vardy was brought down in the area just before full-time and took the resulting penalty but Smith made a superb save to keep out the spot-kick.

Berkhamsted moved back into the Premier Division top six of the table by hitting Broxbourne for six on Saturday.

Dan Weeks ventured forward to net his second goal of the season to put the Comrades ahead in the sixth minute.

Ashton Campbell and Matt Bateman scored the second and third before Jamie Brandon caught Berkhamsted off guard and beat his man on the left of the area to reduce the deficit for his side.

The second half started like the first and soon Berko had their fourth when Adam Mead’s free-kick was tucked in just inside the near post.

Campbell got his second goal of the game from close range as he reacted first to a shot that rebounded off him.

Alex Campana added their sixth in injury time when he weaved his way past three challenges into the penalty area and hit a bending shot that swerved inside the back post, leaving keeper Graham Loki in no man’s land.

Leverstock Green considered themselves unlucky to come away from their game against title contenders Hertford Town with nothing after they lost 2-1 on Saturday.

It was an unfortunate mistake in the opening minute that led to Town opening the scoring when Tommy Wade robbed Kendall Allan of the ball and the former ran though to score with barely 20 seconds on the clock.

Leverstock equalised in the 16th minute when Tremayne Charles picked up the ball and headed for goal, slotting home from the edge of the box.

But the decisive goal came when Ross Adams was adjudged to have fouled Brett O’Connor in the penalty area and Ed Taylor converted the resulting spot-kick.
