Fans have gathered outside Watford FC's stadium following the death of the team's greatest manager Graham Taylor.

Taylor, who also managed Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, died of a suspected heart attack aged 72 yesterday, his family said.

Katie Brandon, 29, and her son Harry, 3, visited the stadium this morning to pay tribute to Graham Taylor.

Watford Observer:

Before her granddad died in 2015 he made a Watford FC flower decoration but the family did not know what to do with it. However following Taylor’s passing they decided to leave it outside the stadium.

She said: “My granddad died in October 2015 and we had the plaque in our garage and did not know what to do with it until now.

“We are all massive Watford FC fans. The first game I went to was when I was three and have been a fan ever since.

“Taylor was a great man and a fantastic manager.”

Taylor's Scrapbooks from his first era at Watford FC are on display in commemoration at Watford Museum and a book of condolences is inside the stadium.

Russell Axtell, 57, of Oxhey, said: “It was a big shock when I found out.

“I was in Hemel and my sister got in touch with my other sister who I was with and told us the news.

“It was a very big shock. I have supported them since I was 10 years old. We will never have a manager like him again for sure.”

Stephen Lavender, 64, of Watford, said he was very sad when he heard the news saying it was really moving.

He said: “I have lived in the Watford area for 40 years and supported Watford FC for 20 years.

“When Graham Taylor came back as the chairman it was a pivotal moment as we were going out.”

Watford FC are happy for people to come and leave tributes at the stadium. They said they are expecting a big turn-out before tomorrow’s game against Middlesbrough.
