Walter Mazzarri claims Watford deserved to beat Millwall despite his side being dumped out of the FA Cup after losing 1-0 this afternoon.

The Hornets produced an abject showing against the League One club as a late Steve Morison effort fired the Lions into the fifth round.

But the Watford head coach saw things differently and believes his side were hard done by at the Den.

Mazzarri said: “Here at Millwall it is not easy. It was almost a war and a very aggressive game. It almost seemed like a wrestling match at certain moments.

“I think if someone deserved to win, especially in the second half, it was Watford also because of the penalty [challenge on Stefano Okaka not given by referee] and a lot of the fouls which were not conceded in our favour."

One reporter took issue with the Italian's view of the game but Mazzarri insists the Hornets were the only team trying to play football.

He replied: “I don’t agree with you. Millwall were very aggressive and tried to do some fouls on the limit of regulation.

"We were the only team that tried to play football aside from the penalty we deserved. I’m still convinced of my thoughts."
