The competitive season has got off to a disappointing start for Luke Groves after he missed the cut at the opening event of the Alps Tour.

The South Oxhey professional’s hopes of making a positive impact at the Ein Bay Open in Egypt effectively ended yesterday when he fired a four-over-par opening round of 76 to leave him near the rear of the field.

The 24-year-old fared a little better today, but he was still unable to break par as he shot a one-over 73 to end his tournament on five-over, six shots off the one-under-par cut line.

Groves missed several events on the European satellite tour last year due to personal reasons, having secured his best Tour result in the North African country early in the season with a share of sixth place at the Dreamlands Pyramids Open.
