Kings Langley bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat against bottom of the table Cinderford Town with a battling 1-1 draw against title chasing Chippenham Town on Tuesday.

The South Midland League Premier Division leaders would have arrived at Gaywood Park expecting to take all three points, but came up against a resilient Kings side.

Defeat on Saturday saw Paul Hobbs ring the changes as six of the starting XI which lost 1-0 to Cinderford made way.

The changes resulted in a spirited display and Kings led through Jorell Johnson’s strike heading into the closing stages, only to be denied by an 84th minute Xavi Comas own-goal.

A keenly contested first half produced few chances, with the first opening for Kings seeing Mason Bush’s effort turned round the post.

Richard Platt went close form the resultant corner as the hosts enjoyed the better of the first period, but failed to make their dominance count.

They were unfortunate not to lead at the break after some neat interplay between Kieran Turner and Michael King allowed Kings to fire against the angle of post and crossbar.

Kings continued to apply pressure after the break and were ahead when Johnson rose highest to head home Jerry Amoo’s corner in the 58th minute.

With time running out, and Chippenham offering little in the way of attacking intent, an error from Comas saw a vital three points reduced to one.

The Kings keeper, who has often been the hero this season, came to meet a cross and misjudged his punch, sending the ball into the back of his own net.

It was a cruel blow for Kings who sit six points clear of the relegation zone in 18th place by virtue of the draw.
