West Herts Hockey Club’s men fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat at Southgate in the Men’s East Conference National League on Sunday.

The home side established an early lead through Drew Burkin and Paulie Singh with goals on 11 and 14 minutes respectively.

But Herts fought back and did not conceded any more before the break.

Dan Webster reduced the arrears from the penalty spot on 45 minutes to allow the Stags to get back into the game.

Stags men’s Seconds drew a blank in Hitchin last weekend and lost some of their momentum in the East Premier B as they went down 3-0 to Blueharts Firsts.

The men’s Third recorded their second successive win as they beat Potters Bar Firsts 3-1.

In the East Division Four South West the Fourths saw off a Rickmansworth First XI by four goals to one.

The fifths will be left reeling after they failed to move into second place in the East Division Six South West table after they were defeated 2-1 by St Albans Eighth’s.

The ladies seconds moved out of the drop zone in East Two South West following a 4-1 win over relegation rivals Welwyn Firsts. Second half goals from Rachel Findlay, Laura Goodhew, Jess Howse and Julie Waring secured the important victory.
