Season's can often be defined by short spells and Fullerians director of rugby Rich Hoskins believes March could prove pivotal in securing the club’s London One North status.

Fullers sit eleventh in the table and enjoy a 10 point gap on closest challengers Chelmsford. With matches against Chelmsford, Sudbury and Barking, who occupy the bottom two places in the table, next month, Hoskins is looking for his side to cement survival.

“We have targeted March as being a decisive part of the season and we want to get three wins from three,” he said.

“I think it is massive for us to do well in March and the boys realise that. Win these next three games and that will secure our status in London One.

“We need to get results, even if it means we win by a point, 10 points, 50 points, whatever, we need the wins.”

The need to perform in March is made all the more pressing when Fullerians’ final three games of the season are taken into account.

A trip to league leaders Tring, who have won all 20 of their league games, is followed by a home encounter with third place Chingford before the season closes at Ruislip.

Hoskins is as aware as anyone of the challenging conclusion to the campaign and, while he is still eager to take points, accepts winning in the final three games will be a test.

“We have three tough games at the end of the season, with Tring, who are running away with it, at the start of April,” he said.

“We have six games to try and get as many points as possible. We want to win our next three and then any points we can get from those last three will be a bonus.”

A season featuring only six league wins may appear, on the surface at least, to be one of disappointment.

Hoskins, however, has seen steady improvement in his side and highlights a battling display last time out against North Walsham as evidence of this.

While Fullers went down to a 33-15 defeat on Saturday, the players’ effort drew praise form the their boss.

He said: “For me, the performance was really good and showed we have made massive strides this season.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted but the performance can only be seen as a positive.”

Hoskins’ optimism is tempered somewhat by ongoing issues with player availability, which have at times undermined Fullers’ season.

Looking to the future, the former forward believes a consistently available squad could allow Fullers to challenge near the summit of the table.

“Not being available, not through injury, but just being away or having work commitments has had an impact on our season,” Hoskins explained.

“If those boys could make themselves available 95 per cent of the time, I think we could be a top six or even a top four side.”
