West Herts Firsts brought their home East Conference campaign to a close in disappointing fashion on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Cambridge City.

After a cagey start, Herts took the lead as Dan Webster notched his 22nd goal of the season with a well taken penalty corner.

The momentum shifted on the stroke of half-time when Thomas Butler levelled the scores.

Butler would go onto decide the match almost single handedly, completing a hat-trick with a penalty corner and penalty stroke in the second half.

Stags finish their season with a visit to Richmond on Saturday, with a seventh-place finish already guaranteed.

The Seconds were in better form in front of goal and eased to a 4-2 win in their East Premier B match with Norwich City.

Meanwhile, the Thirds suffered a heavy 6-2 loss at the hands of promotion candidates Wapping Thirds.

Herts were on the back foot from the off and conceded two early goals to be left facing an uphill challenge to get back into the game.

Richard Pineo pegged one back before three more Wapping goals took the score to 5-1.

Nick Mundy added his name to the scoresheet for Herts, but Wapping had the final say on proceedings to restore their four-goal advantage.

In the East Division 4SW the Fourths came out on the right side of 10-goal thriller, beating Berkhamsted Seconds 6-4 in a game which also featured a red card.

In an action-packed game, Jack Sexton claimed man of the match with a stunning goalkeeping performance, which saw him save superbly from two penalty corners.

The result takes them up to third in the table.

The Fifths were in rampant goalscoring form in the East Division 6SW and hammered Luton Vagrants 9-0.

Andrew Witcombe was the club’s most prolific threat, scoring five times to add to braces from Tim Lebouef and Matthew Woods.

Wins in their last three games mean the Fifths are still in contention to earn promotion.

The Ladies Firsts endured a torrid time at the hands of Cambridge City, going down to a 6-0 defeat in the Investec East Conference.

The visitors were two up with just seven-minutes on the clock as Megan Beard and Heidi Barber scored.

Barber added her second before the 20-minute mark and a double from Vanessa Sharman all but put the game to bed.

Beard completed the rout on with her second of the game on a miserable day for Herts.

The Ladies Seconds tasted double despair as they lost twice over the course of the weekend.

Saturday saw them go down to a 6-2 defeat against Letchworth before losing 4-2 to Shefford & Sandy 24-hours later. The results mater little as Herts have secured survival.
