Craig Pawson will don the whistle at Vicarage Road a week today after being named as the referee for May Day's televised Watford clash with Liverpool.

The South Yorkshire-based official was in charge when the Hornets lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final a year ago today, and has refereed them only once since.

That came in a 1-1 draw against West Ham in February, during which he sent off the Irons' Michail Antonio late on for a second yellow card.

Pawson was back in charge of another FA Cup semi-final yesterday at Wembley - and had a game to forget, denying Sergio Aguero a first-half goal against Arsenal which should have stood, as well as failing to award Manchester City a penalty after the Argentine was tripped by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Pawson has refereed Watford eight times in all, with the Hornets winning only two of his eight games in charge.

The most recent of those was back in the 2012/13 season, when goals from Troy Deeney and Nathanial Chalobah gave them a 2-1 win at Leicester City - with one Harry Kane on target for the hosts.
