President’s Cup Final

Oakview completed a league and league cup double as they swept aside First Division champions Old Danes Athletic 7-1 in the final at Oxhey Jets.

Despite retaining the Premier Division title Oakview’s form had stuttered in recent weeks, with a surprise semi-final defeat in the Challenge Cup and a first loss in the league in two-and-a-half years, but they showed how ruthless they can still be yesterday.

Old Danes are themselves an experienced and successful side, having won the old Olympian League Premier Division title in its last two seasons, and the First Division title this campaign, as well as knocking out two Premier Division sides in this competition - Chorleywood Club and St Josephs - but they had no answer to their opponents, who were at times on another level.

Athletic’s game plan was to frustrate, getting players behind the ball and playing only one out-and-out striker in Jordan Woodcock, with Will Keddy the player to miss out.

The plan seemed to be working for the first 18 minutes, as they harassed and hassled their opponents, with Chris White causing problems down the left, but all that early work and effort was for nothing as Oakview struck with three goals in five minutes, starting with a screamer from Luke Lloyd.

From a corner from the left, a goalmouth scramble ensued with the ball striking the post before being cleared by the Danes defence. There looked to be no danger as the clearance found Lloyd some 35 yards out, but his strike gave goalkeeper Olli Burks no chance as it flew in off the post.

That goal clearly stunned Danes and within a minute they found themselves two down as Lloyd played a neat one-two on the edge of the penalty area with Owen Deamer before firing home.

Lloyd almost notched a three-minute hat-trick as he saw a shot cleared off the line, but a third goal for Oakview followed two minutes later, with Luke Beardsworth scoring from inside the area.

Although the destiny of the trophy was effectively decided, shell-shocked Old Danes battled back, and White saw a goal ruled out for offside just after the half-an-hour mark.

Any slim hopes of a comeback were ended ten minutes into the second half when good work from Deamer allowed Tom Kennedy to turn the ball home at the far post for his side’s fourth.

Lloyd completed his hat-trick ten minutes later, racing on to Warren Gladdy’s through ball before rounding Burks and slotting home. And just two minutes later it was six, with Kennedy scoring again.

Lloyd almost got his fourth of the game with 12 minutes left, seeing a lob hit the top of the crossbar, but it was Kennedy who completed his own treble with two minutes left.

Old Danes kept plugging away and they scored a deserved consolation in the first minute of stoppage time when White’s shot was turned home from almost on the line by Nick Alibey.

Oakview: C. Inch (Jacks 77), Barrett, Lloyd, Alexander (Armitt 58), Smith, Brown, Armstrong, Deamer (Akhtar 70), T. Inch (Lowton 70), Beardsworth (Gladdy 58), Kennedy.

Old Danes Athletic: O. Burks, Johns, Leondiou (Oliver 73), C. Bennett, J. Burks (Alibey 70), R. Bennett, White, Januz, Woodcock (Keddy 45), Burke, Oliver (Spooner 58).

Premier Division

The top two places may have already been decided, but third spot is still up for grabs.

Rickmansworth Town finished their campaign with a 4-0 win over Old Fullerians, with goals from B. Adams, R. Bailey, J. Mistretta and E. Goward to leave them in third place.

St Josephs are the only side who could catch them and they have two games left, but they would still also have to beat Rickmansworth’s superior goal difference which is 13 better.

Joes' game against Green Dragon was awarded to the hosts, which leaves Dragon bottom of the table without a single point to their name.

Rifle Volunteer beat Met Police Bushey 5-1 thanks to a Nick Kerley hat-trick, one from Liam Hanley and an own goal.

Houssam Zeizale scored for Met Police, who end the season in second bottom place.

Division Two

The double header between the top two, Langleybury Cricket Club and Fox & Hounds, ended in four points for the treble-chasing Fox, but it saw them drop league points for the first time this season.

The first game was won 2-0 by them with goals from Josh Noyes and Michael Edwards, but they could only draw the second match 1-1 with Rob Partington netting for Fox and Dan Bryon on target for their opponents.

Evergreen are still in the hunt for second place, although they can no longer win the title, after easily beating Rickmansworth Athletic 7-0; Ben Adams with a double and singles from Aleks Jokiel, Callum Rimmer, Joss Dunham, Jake Colley and Dan Verbena.

That defeat for Athletic leaves them looking over their shoulders at Oxhey Rangers, who beat Bedmond 3-1.

Luke McLaughlin, Jordan Aston-Woods and Connor Murphy were on target for Rangers, who now need one win from their remaining two games to beat the drop, with Jordan Davies replying for Bedmond.

The mid-table game between Cassiobury Rangers and Rifle Volunteer Reserves ended in a 3-1 home win.

Mark Ferguson, Joe Mortimer and Ryan Harris struck for Cassiobury while Ron Blagden scored for the visitors.

Division Three

Revolution could not secure the point they needed to avoid finishing second bottom as goals from Matt Winyard and J. P. Santos saw Tudor Athletic to a 2-1 win. Chris Massey got the consolation.

Division Four

The fight for the Division Four title goes down to the final day and FC Woodside took over the leadership for the first time this season after a 7-0 win over Roundbush.

Drew Snailham led the way with five goals and John Croft and Dane Weimar weighed in with one apiece.

The victory leaves Woodside one point clear ahead of Ardent, but both sides have tough final games.

The new leaders travel to third-placed Bushey Rangers, while Ardent are at home to AFC Green Machine, who beat Rangers 3-2 yesterday.

Goals from Charlie Fowler, Max Palfrey and Joe Boggins secured the three points, with Harrison Bath and George Davies replying.
