Steven Berghuis is eager to remain at Feyenoord after enjoying an impressive season with the Dutch club.

The Watford midfielder has struggled to make an impact on the Hornets first team since arriving at Vicarage Road in July 2015 and was sent on a season long loan at the start of the campaign.

Since then he has found his form in Feyenoord’s title chasing side, scoring seven goals in 34 appearances to help the Stadium Club to the summit of the Eredivisie.

The 25-year-old believes he has shown his true quality while back in his homeland and would, therefore, be happy to remain at Feyenoord.

“I’m open to a longer stay and the Feyenoord club is exactly the same,” Berghuis told Algemeen Dagblad.

“I do not want to fall back to a season where I possibly will play very little, like in my first year in the Premier League. All of that was extreme.

“I feel I’ve done very well here. This is what Steven Berghuis can do. My confidence is huge. I’ve said before that I have a wide smile every day at De Kuip (Feyenoord’s stadium). I want that next season.”
