Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt has reportedly entered the running to take over at Watford.
The 50-year-old led the German club to third place in the Bundesliga last season, but having secured Champions League qualification was sacked in March shortly after a 4-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the round-of-16 of Europe's elite club competition.
Schmidt has managed five different clubs during a 13-year career as a coach, most notably Red Bull Salzburg, who he led to the last 16 of the Europa League in 2014.
Known for his well-drilled sides and attacking football, one unwelcome similarity with this season's campaign has dogged Schmidt more recently, after his Leverkusen side shipped some 16 goals from set pieces in 2016/17 before his dismissal.
