Premier Division

Radlett’s unbeaten start to the season came to a close on Saturday as they suffered a five-wicket defeat against North Mymms.

Losing the toss ensured the hosts were on the back foot early on as North Mymms looked to make the most of favourable bowling conditions.

And make the most they did, as Fraser Crawford fell for a duck to leave Radlett on 5-1 – a position they would never truly recover from, despite the best efforts of Louis Prideaux.

The Radlett man top scored with 44, but a dearth of quality around him, which saw only Kabir Toor (22) go beyond 20 runs in the remainder of their order.

Hamza Qayyum was the main man with the ball for Mymms, claiming 3-16 as Radlett slumped to 117 all out.

Qayyum would lead the Mymms response as he scored 21 from number one but the majority of the chase was masterminded by Steve Snell.

Snell scored an unbeaten 70 from only 66 deliveries in a knock which included four fours and a six.

A routine chase was completed with only 31.1 overs played as Mymms eased to a dominant victory.

Championship

Langleybury had a similarly disappointing result as they suffered a two-wicket defeat to Sawbridgeworth in a shortened match.

The majority of the Langleybury batting order lacked staying power as they were dismissed for 117 after just 35 overs.

Matt Corran was the only batsmen to really trouble the scorers as he made 37 before being trapped LBW.

With the weather causing delays in play, Sawbridgeworth were given a reduced target of 113 to win from 45 overs.

They still struggled to get over the line as Langleybury dismissed eight of their number, thanks in no small part to Richard Oxley’s 4-8.

Nonetheless, they finished the job as Danny Wilson scored an unbeaten 58 to spearhead a successful chase.

Impressive knocks from William Jones and Craig Sanders helped West Herts to a 17-run victory over Hoddesdon as they scored 97 and 73 not out respectively.

After a sloppy start, which saw Herts’ top three all fall for less than five runs, Sanders and Jones came to the crease and set about establishing their side.

The duo enjoyed a 194-run partnership as they muzzled the previously dominant Hoddesdon attack to take the score to 216-4 at the end of their innings.

Hoddesdon would go on to make a concerted effort to chase down the hefty target, with opener James Achillea scoring 50.

Jamie Curtis (38), Sam Davis (31) and Rob Walters (28) also made telling contributions but it wasn’t enough as they were bowled out for 197.

Ian Gurney was the most prolific of the Herts bowlers, taking 4-35, while Daniel Woosley (2-37), Jones (2-42) and Avinash Mane (1-33).

Division One

Hemel Hempstead Town had no such luck in Division One as they suffered a 36-run defeat to Old Owens.

Hemel won the toss and appeared to have made a smart decision to bowl first as they restricted Owens to 186 from their innings.

Nick Hodgins and Parth Mehta led the way in the wicket-taking department finishing with 3-26 and 3-37 respectively.

In response, Hemel struggled to build any real momentum, with Joshua Graves’ 39 being their top score.

Tom Elborn (25) and Matthew Dale (22) were the next most prolific run scorers as Hemel finished on 150.

It was a more productive weekend for Broxbourne as they overcame Leverstock Green in a two-wicket victory.

Lewis Koch top scored for Green with 58 in an innings which saw them post 169-7.

Jaco Janse Van Rensberg claimed 2-26 and there were also wickets for Benji Richardson (1-19) Charlie Willis (1-21) and Conor Ridley (1-31).

While the Broxbourne response lacked a standout display, a team effort saw them over the line with just under 10 overs to spare.

Kings Langley fell foul to the weather as they failed to complete their match against Stevenage due to rain.

They were on 5-2 as they chased Stevenage’s total of 205-6.

Division Two B

Bushey were comfortably beaten by 118-runs by Old Elizabethans as they failed to chase down the imposing 245 set by the hosts in a shortened match.

Their response was ended in the 31st over with Bushey on 129 when the final wicket fell.

Division Three A

Northchurch managed to overcome poor weather conditions to record a five-wicket win over Knebworth.

After restricting their opponents to 143-9, Northchurch were set a revised total of 105 to win using the Duckworth-Lewis method.

The run chase proved to be relatively routine as their order shared the run making responsibilities, starting with opener John Barry’s 23.

Steve McGiffin (19) and Mark Hobley (25) helped see their side over the line in the 26th over.

There was no such luck for Met Police Bushey who went down to a seven-wicket loss to a dominant Redbourn.

Division Three B

Hemel Hempstead Town Seconds fell victim to the elements as the mathematics favoured Baldock in their Division Three meeting.

Hemel were put into bat and struggled throughout a rain-interrupted innings as they repeatedly had to return to the Pavilion to shelter from the weather.

They managed to crawl to 130 before being bowled out. Anjam Khan top scored for Town with a total of 43.

Despite their paltry tally, Hemel were on form with the ball and looked well set to claim victory after reducing Baldock to 74-8 after 24 overs.

However, Messrs Duckworth and Lewis conspired against the hosts to hand Baldock the victory.

Anjam Khan (3-15) and Suren Perera (3-26) were Hemel’s main wicket takers, but their efforts proved to be in vain.

Divsion Four A

A fine batting display allowed Chippefield Clarendon to claim a composed 56-run win over North Mymms Seconds.

Perry Allen provided the biggest chunk of their runs, scoring 72 before being snared by the impressive Alistair Chilcott (5-56).

Tom Bambury also enjoyed a strong knock, scoring a half-century as Clarendon made 228 before Mymms removed their final batsman.

Clarendon’s turn with the ball saw Shabaz Momin come to the fore as he claimed a five-for to finish with figures of 5-38.

His haul included the Mymms top three and he was well backed up by Andrew Price (2-32). Adarsh Desai (1-31) and Michael Edwards (1-41).

Their collective effort ensured Mymms struggled to build a serious head of steam, with captain Simon Clements top scoring with 27.

Division Five B

Finally, Hemel Hempstead Town Thirds made 117 before Hitchin Seconds reached 88-2 in response to secure the win via the Duckworth-Lewis method.
