Abbots Langley and Watford Town A will now face each other in the last eight after becoming the latest teams to reach the quarter-finals of the Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield.

The two sides join Kings Langley and Bushey, who won their last-16 ties earlier this week, while 2014 and 2015 champions Radlett also progressed without a ball being bowled after opponents Chipperfield Clarendon conceded.

Abbots advanced after chasing down Leverstock Green B’s total of 130 with six wickets in hand and five deliveries of their 14, eight-ball overs remaining last night.

Green’s second string will now join Aldenham in the Plate after they were on the receiving end of a heavy wicket-defeat at the hands of Watford Town A.

Aldenham made 135-7 but were largely powerless to prevent their opponents powering their way to the target inside 10 overs for the loss of just two wickets.

Kings Langley’s place in the quarter-finals was secured after emerging on top from a low-scoring contest against Watford Grammar School for Boys on Wednesday.

Langley were dismissed for 98 but limited the school team to 78-9 in reply.

Like Watford Grammar, Langleybury A will also have to settle for a place in the secondary competition after Bushey beat them by three wickets.

Only Nahim Amin (21), Dan Walker (22) and Habib Alam (21) made it into double figures as Bury were restricted to 106-8 from their allotted overs.

Omar Ayaz led the wicket-taking with 3-35 but he was arguably outshone by Farooq Hameed, who claimed 2-16 from his permitted four overs.

Bushey opener Nomaan Ilyas then carried his bat for unbeaten 42 to see his side home despite the best efforts of Ross Channer (4-23) and Andy Felton (2-14), who picked up the bulk of the seven wickets to fall.

The revised quarter-final draw is (seeds in bold): Abbots Langley v Watford Town A; Aldenham School or West Herts v Northchurch v Watford Town B; Leverstock Green A or Met Police Bushey v Radlett; Bushey v Kings Langley.

The qualifiers for the Plate to date are: Aldenham; Langleybury A; Leverstock Green B, Rickmansworth School Staff; Watford Grammar School for Boys.
