Talented youngsters were once again recognised on Monday when the Three Rivers and Watford School Sports Partnership held their annual awards ceremony in Rickmansworth.

Presentations across 13 categories, which recognised team and individual achievements across the year, were handed out to the pupils of the 47 schools involved with the partnership.

Friends, family and teachers all came together in the great hall of Royal Masonic School for Girls to celebrate not only sporting achievements but also leadership and commitment to inspire others to get involved.

The awards were handed out by Olympic hockey star Maddie Hinch MBE, who is well known for her heroics in the gold medal match at Rio 2016 as Team GB beat the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Prior to the Olympic Games, Hinch tasted success with England, winning gold at the 2015 European Championship and silver at the Commonwealth Games the year before.

The 28-year-old spoke about how she had to overcome two tough setbacks and left university to become Great Britain’s number one goalkeeper.

This resonated with the audience and served as a reminder to the youngsters to never give up on their dreams.

Rickmansworth’s talented footballer Shannon Cooke was named as the Key Stage (KS) 3-5 Exceptional Performer of the Year for the second year running after being offered a new contract to stay with Arsenal Ladies.

Parmiter’s Max Hodson won the Outstanding Contribution Award at the ceremony, while Nikhil Patel from Abbots Langley won the KS2 Outstanding Achievement for representing his school across a number of sports.

The KS5 Outstanding Leader of the Year was named as Remi Jessop from St Joan of Arc School and the KS4 Young Leader of the Year was handed to Rishi Kaushal and Felix Cadogan of St Clement Danes School.

This was not the only victory for Danes as Toby Laycock was given the KS3 Emerging Leader of the Year.

Francis Combe Academy’s Zak Green was named as Young Official of the Year for attending the RFU Level 2 Referee and Basketball England Young Official courses through the partnership.
