New Watford signing Will Hughes has spoken for the first time about his move to Vicarage Road - and says he has already settled in with his new team-mates.

Having played an integral role in England Under-21s' run to the semi-finals of the European Championships earlier this summer, Hughes only linked up with the Hornets squad for the first time on Monday, as they jetted off to Austria for this year's pre-season tour.

But two days later, the 22-year-old is already feeling at home - and enjoying the surroundings of Premier League football, which he admits lured him to Hertfordshire when Watford came in for him last month.

He told Watfordfc.com: "It feels like it’s been a couple of months since I signed the contract, but I’m delighted to be here, and it’s settled down very quickly. It’s nice to get away with the boys.

"Premier League football stood out, but I’ve played against Watford in my career and it’s a great club. That’s what I’ve been told by plaeyrs who play here too.

"I’ve settled in really quickly. There’s not too many English lads, but the players speak English anyway.

"I’m really looking forward to playing in the Premier League. It’s been spoken about a lot in recent years, but I’m just looking forward to what it brings."

Hughes had been at Derby since schoolboy age but despite links to the top-flight - and the likes of Liverpool reportedly on the prowl in the past - never had to make a decision on his future until this summer.

With approaching 200 professional appearances already under his belt at the iPro Stadium despite his tender age, it is little surprise the midfielder had to think twice about leaving his boyhood club.

He said: "Emotionally, it was difficult. I’d been there for almost 10 years and cutting ties was a difficult decision, but I think it suited all parties. I had a good time, but I’ve got to look forward now.

"It’s a bit of a change location-wise, down south, and it’ll take me a bit of time to get used to but so far so good."
