Watford Under-23s secured their first win of pre-season with a 1-0 victory over St Albans City this afternoon.

The only goal of the game came in the first half from one of four trialists who started for the Hornets, the attacking player drifting in behind and slotting the ball past Dean Snedker in the 32nd minute.

Prior to that, the Saints had seen a couple of good chances come and go, with Zane Banton firing inches wide while Percy Kiangebeni saw a close-range effort cleared off the line.

The friendly was played behind closed doors at the Hornets' London Colney training base after it was announced this morning the game had been rearranged.

It was originally due to be played at Clarence Park home, but was postponed on Thursday due to health and safety concerns following the death of Saints supporter Clive Churchhouse while working at the ground.
