The drawn-out saga detailing Watford's pursuit of Andre Carrillo has entered its final chapter - with the Peruvian winger believed to be close to a loan move from Benfica.

Carrillo has been on Watford's radar all summer with head coach Marco Silva eager for a reunion with his former player, but negotiations have come up short for more than a month.

The two clubs now appear to have finally agreed a fee which will bring the 26-year-old to Vicarage Road for a year for a cut-price loan fee - but the Hornets will have to stump up £15 million to keep him beyond that.

Carrillo worked with Silva for a year at Sporting Lisbon in 2014/15, growing fond of the head coach as they won the Portuguese Cup and finished third in the top flight, losing only two games all season.

He sparked fury when he moved across town to Lisbon rivals Benfica a year later on a free transfer, but has had to get used to life on the bench at the Estadio da Luz, starting only three games last season.

Various English clubs were said to be chasing the flying midfielder during the summer, but sources close to the player told the Watford Observer he was always eyeing up another link-up with Silva.
