Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round One

First Division Colne Valley have had a slow start to the new season with just two draws from their opening three league games but on Sunday they exploded into life with a 8-1 home win over Berkhamsted Sunday League Division One outfit South Hill United.

Valley opened the scoring after 15 minutes through Charlie Benning and doubled the lead just a minute later through Krasi Makaveev. The same player scored his second on the half hour to make it 3-0, before Mitch Wheatley made it four seven minutes later.

The advantage had stretched to 6-0 five minutes into the second half after Adam Pisano and Spencer Warby scored within a minute of each, but South Hill then pulled one back.

Chris Blunden scored Valley's seventh and eighth goals in a two-minute spell four minutes from time to make it three goals in two games since signing from Reed Rangers.

Second Division FC Woodside went down by the odd goal in seven, 4-3 to Robin Hood, after Drew Snailham (2) and Lewis Edwards had netted.

Herts Sunday Junior Cup Round One

Five of the league’s teams made it through to the next round, although a pair of all-WSL ties guaranteed two would advance.

P&P Social enjoyed a 14-goal encounter with AC Malone, finally progressing 8-6 after the two teams were tied at 5-5 after 90 minutes.

Billy and Louie Lobjoit both scored two goals each, with Jimmy Talbot, Callum Spalding, Adam Prince, Donik Sopa also netting.

Bricketwood Social had suffered a poor start to the league season in Division Three with two defeats, but on Sunday the boot was on the other foot as they beat Hemel Harriers 9-1.

Tom Minton struck four times, Martin Sanservino and Chris Cummins added two each and there was one from Paul Bullen.

Fourth Division Everett Rovers had a 6-2 away win against Bowman Athletic, with a first-half hat-trick from Reece Cameron giving his team the dream start.

Further goals before the break from Craig Scott and Rob Barham saw Everett lead 5-1 at the break, but they had to settle for just one more in a mundane second half as right-back Charlie Frost netted his second of the season after beating three players and smashing the ball into the top corner.

Bowman scored their second late in the contest.

The two all-WSL ties were contrasting affairs.

Third Division Hertfordshire Lions swept aside Fourth Division Batchworth, who were not helped by scoring two own goals. Andrew Ryder and Luke Thatcher also netted twice, with Tom Carroll rounding off the 7-0 win.

The other game was far closer as an all-Third Division tie saw AC Little Silhouette of Milan lose 3-2 after extra-time against Hertsmere.

David Donnelly and Callum Tosh scored the home side’s goals, but Hertsmere went through thanks to Carl Davies’ brace and one from Iain Whitlock.

Goals from Dave Flannery, Aaron Crawford and Ben Dunton were not enough to prevent Sun Regent Sports going down to a 5-3 defeat to Greenacres II Reserves, whilst NW FC had a morning to forget as they suffered a 6-0 away loss to Ollys Athletic.

The game between Oxhey Athletic and Berkhamsted Tornadoes Reserves was abandoned with just five left remaining with the scores tied at 4-4 due to a mass brawl. The outcome will now be decided by the Herts FA.

Holders Oakview overcame a potential banana skin with a 4-0 home win against First Division FC Unicorn.

Tom Kennedy got the ball rolling from the penalty spot after 15 minutes when Luke Beardsworth was brought down. The lead was doubled ten minutes later when Simeon Armstrong struck a powerful drive into the far corner.

Owen Deamer dribbled past two players to fire into the bottom corner from 20 yards to make it 2-0 after the break, with the fourth goal coming when Beardsworth bent a 25-yard free-kick around the wall into the top left-hand corner.

The all-First Division game between RD FC and Evergreen saw the visitors win through 6-2.

James Cross gave RD an early lead but this inspired an immediate response and a great through ball from Joss Dunham freed Hadyn Critchell-Ward down the left and he cut in and beat the keeper with a subtle chip over the keeper.

Within minutes Evergreen took the lead with a similar move, this time Brogan Townsend releasing Tom Verbena to score the first of his four goals.

The second half started as the first finished with Evergreen now dominating all over the park and they stretched their lead when Chris Johns released Verbena down the right to finish with a strong shot.

The fourth soon followed when Al Jokiel scored with a clinical finish at the far post after good work down the left by Verbena, who was to complete his hat-trick when he received the ball with his back to goal, swivelled and struck home.

His fourth and the Evergreen’s sixth was a neat header from a corner, although the game ended as it had started as RD pulled one back from a header from a well-worked free-kick from Cross.

Premier Division

Fox & Hounds made it three wins out of three after a 1-0 victory over St Josephs.

Michael Edwards scored the only goal of the game with a header in the second minute, but it was enough to win the game despite them playing most of the first half with just ten players.

Rifle Volunteer are up into second place in the table after a 3-1 win over Rickmansworth Town.

It was proverbial game of two halves, as Rickmansworth dominated the first priod but all they had to show for it was a goal from Steve Cabey.

A tactical switch had the desired effect for Rifle in the second half, with Johnny Wilson changing the game. His performance helped Nick Kerley to score twice with an own goal completing the win.

The two promoted sides, West Herts and Old Danes Athletic, drew 2-2, but it was the Stags who were happier with the point after coming back from 2-0 down with 20 minutes left.

Jordan Woodcock put Old Danes ahead after 31 minutes, tapping in from close range from a cross by Josh Burkes.

West Herts had what they thought was an equaliser ruled out for offside in the second half, whilst at the other end Chris White struck the inside of the post. But the Old Danes captain was not to be denied when he scored his team’s second, sliding in at the back stick.

The game was not over though, and within a minute the Stags pulled a goal back when Ryan Legge headed home a corner.

The comeback was completed nine minutes from time when Old Danes lost prossession in the opposition half, allowing a swift counter-attack which was finished off with a superbly taken goal from Jeremy Audic.

Reed Rangers are finally up and running in the league with a 4-3 win over Old Fullerians, who prop up the table after two defeats.

John Smith converted an early penalty to put Reed ahead and although Old Fullerians soon equalised through Charlie Munroe, Rangers had a two-goal lead by the break thanks to Joe Molineux and John Smith.

Fullers looked to have taken a point as they drew level thanks to a brace from Charlie Hailey in the second period, but with time running out Bradley Sweeney raced through the defence to score the winner.

Division One

Compasses North made it an impressive four wins out of four as they beat North Watford 1-0.

A tight affair needed a special goal to break the deadlock and it came from Tommy Twelves, who fired home with a fierce shot after good work from substitute Ian McLaughlin.

Dan Bryon was the star man after scoring four times, with Mark Edgar, Greg Cook and Jamie Madden all adding one apiece.

Division Two

Tudor Athletic are another side with four wins from four games after they beat Ripstone 7-4.

Matt Elgey’s two goals and one each from Purav Patel and Joe Hardie were not enough for the home side as Tudor replied through Sam Clarke’s hat-trick, Gary Wicks’ brace and singles from Gary Warn and Chris McIntyre.

AFC Green Machine are in third place after goals from Brandon Graves and Charlie Fowler secured a 2-0 win over Rickmansworth Athletic, while Oxhey Rangers and Bedmond shared the points in a 3-3 draw.

Playing with the bare 11 men, Bedmond opened up a 2-0 lead thanks to a penalty from Liam Hanley and a solo effort from Jerome Driscoll.

The home side produced a spirited fightback in the second half and looked to have taken all three points through Khizer Bhandari (2) and one from Conor Murphy. But in added-on time Bedmond were awarded a second penalty which Hanley once again converted.

Division Three

Bushey Rangers are up into second place, just behind leaders P&P Social on goal difference, after a 6-1 win over Revolution.
