It's sometimes difficult to seperate emotion and analysis after an afternoon like we had at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

That largely boils down to the fact that Watford should have left West London with three points against the Premier League champions, which would have been one of the finest days in their recent history.

The fact that there was such disappointment come the full-time whistle spoke volumes of how well the Hornets had played, but also how they had ultimately fallen short of a famous victory.

In the Premier League, you have to take your chances in any game, and that's exactly what Watford have been so good at doing until now. But yesterday they should have killed the game after Roberto Pereyra put them in front, and had they done so would have very likely gone on to pick up three points.

Just as we have given great praise to Marco Silva after masterminding a great start to the season, we must not be afraid to do the opposite and the introduction of Ben Watson for Troy Deeney backfired immensely.

That change was made with the score at 2-2 but Watford still carrying the momentum - but the change took the wind out of their sails altogether. And the less said about Watson's challenge on Willian in the lead up to Azpilicueta's goal, the better.

Ratings

Heurelho Gomes - 7.5
Made a superb stop from Cesc Fabregas before half-time, which was the pick of the bunch amid another handful of good saves. Distribution generally decent and no flapping.

Adrian Mariappa - 7
Looked strong generally but, against such quality opposition, made a couple of rash decisions to slide in when the likes of Eden Hazard were always going to read his play.

Christian Kabasele - 7.5
Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, but with his dayjob at the back excelled and kept Morata very quiet indeed. Was like a kangaroo in the air and won pretty much everything that came his way. Unlucky with defelection for Azpilicueta goal.

Watford Observer:

Miguel Britos - 6
It feels harsh but so much good work from the Uruguayan was undone by being beaten at the near post by Michy Batshuayi, and then helping present him an injury-time second with a horrible pass out of defence. Had been really good up until the equaliser.

Kiko Femenia - 7
Completely silent until half-time, he was given a lot more room by the Chelsea wide men after the break and took full advantage. Thrives in a wing-back role, which gives him the freedom to get more crosses in than at right-back, especially with Pereyra always likely to drift inside off the right.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 7.5
Hadn't looked at his best for some of the first half but a superb equalising goal, pinpoint in its accuracy, changed all that. Strong after half-time too.

Tom Cleverley - 7
Was everywhere, as usual, but whether he has the defensive nouse to operate as one of a two in midfield in a 3-4-3, against the quality of Chelsea, is up for debate. That said, we won't have to face them every week.

Watford Observer:

Jose Holebas - 6
Did deliver the long throw for Watford's equaliser, but equally had a torrid time down the left in both halves, especially the first. Part of that was not his fault, with Chelsea doubling up on him, but equally had to deal with the situation better.

Roberto Pereyra - 7.5
One of his best games, with some lovely flicks before the break, and the goal he deserved after it. So unlucky to go off with injury - but is this how his Watford career will eventually be remembered? Let's hope not. He's a class act.

Troy Deeney - 6.5
He won't feature heavily in the highlights, but Troy fought for every ball and did not stop running until he was substituted. Didn't manage to win much against Gary Cahill but hold-up play was decent as usual.

Watford Observer:

Richarlison - 7
As good as he was in open play, the Brazilian's two misses were criminal. You can't pass up opportunities like that, especially not twice, as we've said above. Would've been our man of the match had either gone in.

Substitutes

Andre Carrillo (for Pereyra, 65) - 6.5
Bright at times down the right, but didn't get especially involved in the game considering the length of time he was on.

Ben Watson (for Deeney, 80) - 5
The wrong substitution at the wrong time, but didn't help his cause either. A rubbish attempt at a tackle on Willian helped make Chelsea's third, and gave the ball away needlessly in the build-up to the fourth.

Watford Observer:

Andre Gray (for Mariappa, 90) - N/A
