The poor weather meant only one of West Herts men’s teams were able to play as the Thirds took on East London Seconds.

There was nothing to separate the two sides and they played out a 1-1 draw, which the Stags would have been pleased with.

East London were the better side for much of the game and Herts were forced to work for the point.

Nonetheless, they remain just above the relegation zone heading into the Christmas break and will need to improve when they return to action in January.

Elsewhere, the ladies Thirds were left empty handed and went down to a 3-1 defeat against Welwyn Garden City.

The result was a repeat of the defeat suffered by Herts on the opening day of the season and they were once again unable to break down a regimented Welwyn side.

The winter break brings with it the start of the indoor season and Herts travelled to Norwich to take part in the East Indoor tournament.

The competition consisted of seven 30-minute matches and commenced with a meeting with hosts Norwich Dragons.

A 4-4 draw provided an entertaining start to the event and Herts carried their confidence into their second match against Old Loughtonians.

Herts’ superior organisation eventually told against a youthful Loughts side and they ran out 2-0 winners.

They then thrashed Broadland 9-2 to make it an impressive seven points from their first three games.

A two-hour break before their next game did Stags no favours and they played with less intensity in their clash with Upminster.

Predictably Herts lost 3-0 but they rediscovered their work rate against Crostyx, who were one of the tournament’s top sides, to win 2-1.

A second-half comeback then allowed Herts to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 5-2 win against Bedford.

They ended the competition in fine fashion, defending well to beat Maidstone 4-3.
