Watford are on the verge of signing Swedish Under-21 goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg for a fee of £3.5 million.

The 19-year-old played 29 times for IFK Gothenburg in the Swedish top-flight during 2017, and is considered one of the brightest goalkeeping talents around with Napoli also chasing his signature.

After signing a five-year deal at Vicarage Road, Dahlberg will be loaned back to Gothenburg for the rest of the English league season.

He was a revelation in the Swedish top flight last season, emerging from nowhere when Gothenburg loaned their first-choice goalkeeper, John Alvbage, to Minnesota United.

He only made his league debut for the club in April but went on to make 29 starts across 2017, as his side finished 10th in the division.

Dahlberg is regarded as an outside shot for Sweden's World Cup squad, and could go to Russia as third-choice behind Robin Olsen and Kristoffer Nordfeldt.
