Christian Kabasele has vowed that Watford will not lie down and “will give everything again” at Stoke City on Wednesday night after explaining why he approached some Hornets fans at full-time yesterday.

There were some angry scenes as first the Belgian defender, and then Jose Holebas, were involved in some frank exchanges with a section of supporters following the 1-0 FA Cup fourth round loss at Southampton, with stewards moving to form a barrier between the parties and both players being led away by captain Ben Watson.

The Hornets were beaten by Jack Stephens’ fourth-minute goal and frustration grew among the large contingent of away fans as their side produced a disappointing display, although Kabasele could have clinched a replay for Javi Gracia’s men but put a good headed chance wide in injury time.

Responding to what happened at full-time on social media last night, Kabasele tweeted: “Me and the team came over to say thank you for your support as always.

“I saw a lot of frustrated faces there and I just wanted to tell them that we are not lying down and will give everything again on Wednesday and this without any anger or looking for confrontation.”

Kabasele’s remarks came after Watson also spoke after the game and defended the fans’ right to express their opinions.
