Callum Shinkwin and Matt Wallace will start tomorrow’s third round of the NBO Oman Open alongside each other on the leaderboard after safely making the cut.

Having shot a bogey-free five-under 67 to sit two shots off the first round lead overnight, Shinkwin experienced the other side of the coin as a two-over 74 dropped him back to three-under in Muscat.

Moor Park club-mate Wallace started the second round on three-under and has remained there after an even-par 72, leaving both players in  a share of 25th going into the third round, eight shots adrift of halfway leader Matthieu Pavon.

Starting his second round from the 10th, Shinkwin swiftly moved to six-under after a birdie three at his first hole. By the time he reached the 15th tee though, the 24-year-old was back to three-under after dropping shots at the par threes at 11 and 13, and making a bogey five on 14.

A birdie three at 18 got his round moving in the right direction again, only for Shinkwin to start his ‘back’ nine with a pair of bogey fives at the first and second to slip back to two-under.

A sixth bogey of the round was made on the par five seventh, but either side of that the former Queens’ School pupil made a birdie three at the sixth and a two on the par three eighth to finish on three-under to comfortably make his first cut of 2018.

Wallace also began his second round from the 10th and also started positively, with a birdie four at 12.

That shot was immediately given back with a four at 13, and the 27-year-old had dropped back to one-under after further bogeys at the par four 17th and the first.

But the Pinner-based professional’s day was to improve thereafter, with a three at the second before another birdie at the par five seventh saw him finish on level-par and also safely into the weekend.
