After a bright start to his Watford career, it is little surprise Gerard Deulofeu’s long-term future is the subject of interest.

The January loan signing has provided a new dynamic to the Watford attack and marked his home debut with a fine goal against Chelsea earlier this month.

Such form, coupled with the winger’s own enjoyment of the English game, of course brings with it the suggestion Watford might look to tie him to a permanent deal in the summer.

For his part, Javi Gracia remains non-committal on the issue but refused to rule out an attempt to lure the Barcelona man to Watford for a prolonged stay.

“We will see. Now is the time to try to give everything so that he’s comfortable and can develop as a player and get good results,” the Watford head coach told Mundo Deportivo when quizzed on Deulofeu’s future.

“I am very happy with his presence here from the first day. The most important thing for everyone is these 11 games and doing well. Let’s see what is decided and what can be done.

“Gerard, for his part, adapted quickly and the next day he played in Stoke. I have high hopes placed in him and I hope that he will serve us to achieve our goals.”

Deulofeu has described a desire to play regularly for both club and country as the main driving force behind his decision to join the Hornets.

He was, inevitably, questioned on where he sees his future and was non-committal when the idea of remaining at Watford beyond his loan agreement was put to him.

He said: “I don’t know, in the future anything can happen. At the moment, I am here until June, so let’s see and maybe in three or four months I love the football and I love this team.

“I can’t say anything for sure because it would be fake.”
