Orestis Karnezis in the Watford goal has been one of the feel good narratives of an often testing campaign for the Hornets.

From the gaffe-ridden debutant at Everton to a reliable stopper, Karnezis has made quite the journey in the past few months.

For compatriot Jose Holebas, the Greek international’s renaissance has been a pleasure to watch especially after the shaky start the duo went through.

Holebas was left visibly angered by Karnezis during the defeat to Everton, but says such situations are part and parcel of football.

“It was him in the Everton game that I was very emotional about but that's what we Greeks do; we shout at each other and that's normal,” he said.

“For everyone it looks like: 'ah what are they doing?' But for us it's normal that. OK, I was a little bit too much and OK, the coach took the decision after this and I accepted it.

“I'm very pleased with this (Karnezis’ form). I'm happy for him.”

With both players coming from Greece, it is reasonable to expect that Holebas may have helped Karnezis come to terms with English life.

However, the left-back says Watford’s summer arrival needed little help settling at Vicarage Road.

He said: “He found everything very quickly. He was asking me about some apartments, flats, houses and I was trying to help him but he was taking it all himself.”
